Five Popular Series I Will (Probably) Never Read

Honestly there’s only so much time I can spend reading and I’ll never be able to read all the books in the world. As much as I want to. So there are some series I’ve put aside and decided, yup, they’re not for me. Either they don’t interest me, I disliked the writing, or the characters irritated me in some way. So here’s a list of some of the more popular series that I’ll (probably) never read.

  1. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

I tried to read this one years ago and the writing just didn’t work for me.

2. The Selection by Kiera Cass

I never even tried this one. I hate the Bachelor so I’m assuming I’d dislike this one too.

3. The Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff

This was another case of the writing not being right for me. I was not a fan of the overblown prose at all, I think I got to chapter two before just calling it a day.

4. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

This one I do feel bad for because I think if I’d read it ten years ago I probably would have liked it. But I’m very hit and miss with YA Contemporaries, they have to really appeal to me for me to choose them when I have a hundred (not even exaggerating) other books to read.

5. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I’ve seen the movies and honestly they kind of bored me so I’m out on this one.

Let me know if you’ve read any of these! Or if I should, you know, stop being so lazy and actually give some of them a chance haha.

Happy Reading!

  1. I could kind of understand the first four but then I saw The Hunger Games and was shocked! I would say definitely give THG a chance as it was what brought me into YA dystopia. Also The Selection is more than just the bachelor as there is a bit of like political intrigue too and they are very addictive!

  2. I was really shocked to see three series on here- The Selection, The Hunger Games and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. I am in love with all three series and like Georgia, even I think that THG and the Selection are addictive. Do give them a try, I can’t promise you won’t regret it, but I think you might like them!

  3. You’re right to avoid the Selection if you’re not into “Bachelor” style reading – I found it to be a fun easy series. For THG, I think it is one series everyone should try once – I thought they were okay, but worth the read (It’s like Twilight, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings – You read them for the curiosity to see what everyone else is talking about and you either love them or dislike them.) ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. I agree that a lot of these need to be read at a younger age to be enjoyed. For example with TATBILB I only like it because it does have that nostalgic feel but if I really think about it, objectively it does have flaws. Same for The Selection. I read book 1 and a quarter of book 2 before DNFing the series. It was just really bad and cliche?? But I do think if I’d have read it back in 2012-2014, at the peak of dystopian (think Delirium, Uglies, Divergent etc) then I would have really loved it. Saying that though, I do think The Hunger Games is pretty good! I haven’t read it for ages but I do think if I was to read it for the first time now I would still enjoy it.
    Loved reading this post!

    • Haha I have been convinced to try The Hunger Games but the others…I don’t think I’ll be missing out on much ๐Ÿ˜… The Selection series definitely seems like something I should avoid, and the others I just wasn’t keen on the writing ๐Ÿ˜ฌ thank you for your comment! ๐Ÿ˜Š

  5. I started reading Shatter Me and didnโ€™t enjoy it very much, so I understand. The Selection and To All the Boys Iโ€™ve Loved Before I really liked when I first read them, but I was also very young. HOWEVER, I really recommend The Hunger Games. Itโ€™s amazing ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿคฉ The movies are good adaptations, but the books are much better. I think you might really like them if you do decide to give them a chance ๐Ÿ˜Š

    Great post Lea!!
